Data Recovery

I can help if you need data recovered from a device, such as a hard drive or an old Mac or PC that isn't functioning normally. Maybe you simply don't know how to use the device or lack the proper tools or ports to access it. It could even be a dusty old machine your parents abandoned in the garage two decades ago.

Analog Tape Digitization

If you have VHS, S-VHS, Hi8, Video8, Digital8, MiniDV, or DVCAM cassettes, I can digitize them.

For analog tapes, I go through the painstaking process of capturing the video using S-Video connections, professional equipment, line time base correction (TBC), full-frame TBC, and dedicated, period-correct capture machines and methods to achieve the highest possible fidelity from your old cassette tapes.

I don't cut corners or use cheap consumer-grade equipment. For each tape, I'll produce an archival-grade AVI file (an essentially untouched, raw capture) and a storage- and viewing-friendly MP4 file with bob deinterlacing applied.

If your tape format isn't listed here, let me know, and I'll evaluate whether I can accommodate it.

Accompanied Shopping

Are you going to a technology retailer to purchase new equipment and want someone knowledgeable to accompany you, ensure the process goes smoothly, and help you select the right equipment? I can help with that. This can mean physically going to the store with you, or guiding you through purchase options on a website based on your needs.

Printer Troubleshooting

Having trouble with a printer that won't print, connect to your computer, or behave as expected? I can help troubleshoot software, drivers, network connections, print quality, and other common issues. I don't perform internal printer hardware repairs outside of user-replaceable components, but I can help determine whether a problem is worth fixing or if replacing the printer would make more sense.

Device Security

Concerned about the security of your computer or other devices? I can help evaluate potential security issues, remove malicious software when possible, review security settings, and recommend practical ways to better protect your devices and personal information. I can also offer suggestions for security software, such as antivirus programs.

Phone & Tablet Software

I can help troubleshoot software-related issues on smartphones and tablets, including application problems, settings, updates, account synchronization, and connectivity. I don't perform physical phone or tablet repairs, such as screen or battery replacements.

TV & Home Theater Setup and Troubleshooting

I have a decent amount of experience setting up and installing home theater equipment like TVs, soundbars, speakers, and receivers. At this time, I don't offer any services that involve drilling or modifying the building in any way.

Email & Account Troubleshooting

Having trouble accessing your email or another online account? I can help with email configuration, password recovery procedures, account synchronization, and general troubleshooting. While I can't guarantee recovery of an account, I can help you navigate the available recovery options and work toward getting things functioning normally again.

This includes assistance with Microsoft Outlook, Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, and other email clients.

Data Backup & Protection

Your important files—pictures, videos, music, project files, and more—are irreplaceable and deserve to be protected. I can help you make sure that they are.

Vintage Mac OS & Windows

I have significant experience working with relatively ancient computers, especially when small businesses rely on irreplaceable software to continue operating and want to avoid replacing it with an expensive subscription. I've maintained many very old Macintosh and Windows desktops and still have a Windows 98 computer to this day that I use for fun.

Client Advocacy (Speak to Xfinity, AT&T, etc., on your behalf.)

If you're having an issue with a service, such as an unstable internet connection, but aren't sure how to explain it to your ISP—or simply don't have the time—I can help.
